Internal review of decisions

If you make a request for information under either the Environmental Information Regulations, or the Freedom of Information Act and you are unhappy with our response, you can ask us to review our decision.

You should request an internal review in writing within 40 days of receiving our response. Your request should be sent to:

Information Rights Team
Ofwat
Centre City Tower
7 Hill Street
Birmingham B5 4UA

You should expect the internal review to take 20 working days.

How we carry out internal reviews

When we have received your request for an internal review, we will send you an acknowledgement letter.

Your request will be passed to Roger Dunshea, Director of Finance and Services, who will coordinate the review.

The review will not be carried out by anyone involved in the original decision. In line with best practice, the internal reviewer may discuss the decisions made with the staff member, or members, who dealt with the original application. This will help to build a full picture as to how decisions were made.

Your request and any supporting evidence will be considered in full.

If our review reverses our original decision to withhold information, we will release the relevant information to you immediately.

If our review upholds our original decision, we will let you know in writing.

If we feel that we cannot adequately carry out an impartial review, we will let you know in writing. You would then be able to appeal our original decision directly with the Information Commissioner.

Appeals to the Information Commissioner

If, after our internal review, you are still unhappy with our decision, you can appeal to the Information Commissioner.
