All public procurement in the UK is governed by the European Union (EU) Treaty, the EU Procurement Directives and UK Procurement Regulations.
The Public Procurement Directive sets out the legal framework for public procurement. Revised UK Regulations came into force on 31 January 2006 to implement new EU Procurement Directives.
If the goods or services we wish to procure are expected to be worth more than £156,442 (excluding VAT), then the Public Contracts Regulations are likely to apply.
The Regulations specify procedures, including adherence to strict timetables, requirements for advertising, invitations to tender, and the award of contracts.
However, there are some contracts that are outside the scope of the Directives.
