Having problems paying your bill? Vulnerable groups scheme (WaterSure)
This scheme allows certain customers with a water meter to have their bills capped to make sure that they don't cut back on the amount of water they use because they are worried about how they will pay their bill.
In order to qualify for assistance, you or someone living in your household, needs to be in receipt of one of the following benefits:
- council tax benefit;
- housing benefit;
- Income Support;
- income-based Jobseeker's Allowance;
- Working Tax Credit;
- Child Tax Credit (except families in receipt of the family element only); or
- Pension Credit.
In addition, you need to either:
- be responsible for three or more children under the age of 19 and in full-time education living in the property; or
- have (or someone living in the property must have) a medical condition which requires significant additional use of water.
If you qualify for this tariff, you will pay no more than the average household bill for your region, even if you use more than the average amount of water. Details of the average household bill for each company can be found in our leaflet 'Water and sewerage charges 2007-08'.
The assistance is not available if you use large volumes of water, such as water used for garden sprinklers or swimming pools.
