RD 15/08

To Regulatory Directors of all
water and sewerage companies
and water only companies

30 July 2008

Dear Regulatory Director

Reporting of debt related matters 2007-08

Ofwat has routinely collected information from companies on a number of areas relating to debt and disconnection. This has included the number of debt recovery actions taken against households through the courts and the number of commercial properties disconnected.

In recent years we have also collected information on payment options and court enforcement.

Following an internal review of the data collected, we have decided to reduce the level of information we collect on disconnections. However, we will continue to request information on household court actions, payment options and enforcement.

As in previous years, we will publish a summary of the information we collect on our website.

Responses

Two appendices containing pro formas and explanatory notes are attached. Please do not amend the tables or definitions in any way but provide commentary when necessary and where requested. We expect companies to be able to complete each section, but if this is not possible please explain why in your commentary.

Please return the completed pro formas and additional commentary requested to Rita Patel in Ofwat's Consumer Protection Division by 29 August 2008. Please ensure that a copy is also sent to your regional Consumer Council for Water office.

If you have any queries relating to this letter or would like an electronic copy of the pro formas please contact Rita Patel at rita.patel@ofwat.gsi.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely
