Publication of 'A sustainable water industry – To PR09 and beyond'

Dear Managing Director

I enclose a copy of our paper 'A sustainable water industry – To PR09 and beyond'.

This document sets out a combined response to three consultations that we issued earlier this year:

'Setting water and sewerage price limits: Is five years right?' (MD211, January 2006);
'Contributing to sustainable development: A consultation on Ofwat's approach' (February 2006); and
'Developing our process for assessing capital maintenance requirements' (March 2006).

In this paper, we outline the key issues emerging from each of the consultations, and how we plan to take work forward. I would like to thank all those who provided written responses, or otherwise contributed to the debates that our consultations have stimulated. Summaries of the responses to each consultation are included as individual appendices to the main document. The majority of the responses we received will also be published on our website shortly.
