One of our primary duties is to make sure that the companies are able to carry out and finance their functions under the Water Industry Act 1991 (WIA91). We set price limits that allow each company to do this while protecting the interests of customers. We review price limits every five years as set out in companies' licences.
Between periodic reviews a company, or Ofwat, can in certain circumstances seek an interim determination of price limits where there are significant changes in costs or revenues. This is set out in Licence Condition B of the water companies' licences.
