Supplying water and sewerage
There are currently 34 regulated companies in the water and sewerage sectors:
- 10 regional monopoly companies provide both water and sewerage services
- 11 regional monopoly companies provide water services only
- 6 local monopoly companies have appointments to provide either water or sewerage services or both
- 7 water supply licensees offer water services to large user customers.
At present most non-household customers are served by the 21 largest monopoly suppliers for their water and sewerage services. However, there are opportunities to enter the competitive market. These are explained in the following sections:
- supplying a defined area – for prospective new appointees
- supplying large users – for prospective water supply licensees
- negotiating with new entrants – for existing water and sewerage companies
