REPORTERS AND AUDITORS JOINT WORKSHOP 15

The Director held Joint Workshop 15 with Reporters and Auditors on 20 November 2000.
The objective of the Workshop was to:

• Review and summarise events over the past year, including developments with the Competition Commission, Interim Determinations, the June Return and new submissions for the year 2000.
• Report on the Reporter appointments process.
• Develop Reporters' and Auditors' awareness of regulatory developments

  and the probable inputs that would be required from the Reporters and Auditors in 2001.

• Give feedback on Reporter performance over the past year.

• A review of the events of 2000 with regard to the Reporters and Auditors was outlined. The outcome of the Competition Commission referrals, the Reporters input into the Monitoring Plan, the June Return 2000, the bad debt and the sewerage service submissions was discussed.
• The importance of the management and resourcing, as well as the independence, of the team was stressed when approving Reporters' appointments.
• We briefly outlined the work for Reporters and Auditors arising from developing topics, such as Capital Maintenance, sewer flooding and leakage.
• Philip Fletcher thanked the Reporters for their responsiveness to Ofwat's developing requirements – sometimes at short notice - and their flexibility and willingness to contribute their particular skills and expertise in areas new to some of them. The Reporter's were praised for their contribution towards June Return 2000, and their maintenance of independence of Ofwat and the companies.
• Presentations were made to the Best Reporters for JR00, for a water only company and for a water and sewerage company. The awards were as follows:
