As part of our Out in the Cold review, we asked Water UK to co-ordinate and lead work on addressing key sector-wide issues, including:
- Establishing a joined-up national approach for alternative bottled water supplies;
- Sharing best practice and data to improve companies’ emergency responses; and
- Improving the way wholesalers interact with retailers and business customers.
Like the water companies, Water UK published a response to our report.
We’re encouraged to see that this work has begun. Water UK has established a strategic advisory group, and will report quarterly and annually on the progress that is being made.
But we’ve also asked Water UK to ensure that this work continues. In particular, we haven’t seen enough progress made on the interaction between wholesalers and retailers. It is essential that all companies get involved in the work Water UK is leading.
