Alongside their annual return, water and sewerage companies provide information to us on the levels of activity within the market. We have used this information to produce the market monitoring report, which covers developments in the market from 2017, when we started to collect this information. We have presented the findings in the form of an interactive report – data up to 2021 can be found in the report below.
The 2020/21 findings are similar to the previous year’s report. Whilst there were a number of positive findings such as a good level of sludge transport and disposal/recovery provided by third parties, we were concerned that the trading of sludge for treatment is very low and falling and that companies continue to report a number of barriers to competition.
