Price Review

Price reviewEvery five years we set limits on the prices the water companies can charge their customers. We make sure that these charges represent the best value for consumers and allow efficient companies to provide a sustainable service.

We have set price limits three times since the companies were privatised – in 1994, 1999 and 2004.

In 2009 we set price limits for customers’ bills for each year between 2010 and 2015. Each company has submitted a draft business plan to us. These set out the companies’ initial views of what they plan to deliver and how much this will cost. In April 2009 we received final business plans from the companies. In July 2009 we published our draft determinations and invited interested parties to respond.

In November 2009 we published our final determinations. Companies had to decide whether to accept our determination or refer it to the Competition Commission. All companies except one (Bristol Water) have accepted our determination. The Competition Commission redetermined Bristol Water's price limit in August 2010.
